Breathtaking pyrotechnics at the Vodacom Rebranding Launch

On 1 April 2011, Vodacom, South Africa’s largest cellular phone operator, changed their corporate colours from blue to red. Fireworks for Africa was chosen to provide cutting edge pyrotechnics at the main event, which was held at Orlando Stadium in Soweto. The event was named the Vodacom Unlimited Festival.

A 30 second rooftop show took place at the stadium, followed immediately by another 30 second show on top of the Ponte Building in Hillbrow (one of Johannesburg’s highest buildings). This second display was to showcase the ‘switch on’ of the new red sign. Building the rig on top of the signboard was no easy task! FFA’s team of six technicians worked for two days at a dizzying height of 190 metres above the ground, on top of the scaffold structure, to build this masterpiece! Their teamwork (and nerves of steel) paid off in the end as Vodacom were able to treat their customers to a breathtaking event.
